Detailed itinerary
Day 01: Sacred Valley of the Incas Aguas Calientes Connection
Pickup from your hotel lobby around 6:00 a.m. in transportation with a guide, departing towards the first archaeological site of the day. Our first stop will be Chinchero, an Andean town famous for its colonial church built over Inca remains and for keeping alive the traditional process of textile production using natural dyes and looms. Its approximate altitude is 3,772 m above sea level, and the suggested visit duration is about 40 minutes. Subsequently, we will transfer to the Moray site, an impressive set of circular Inca terraces designed as an «agricultural laboratory» to experiment with diverse microclimates and crops, located at an approximate altitude of 3,385 m with an estimated duration of 40 minutes. We will continue the journey towards Maras to see the ancient salt mines: thousands of salt ponds exploited since pre-Inca and Inca times that generate a spectacular white-pink landscape, where we will stay for an estimated time of 40 to 45 minutes. After these cultural and semi-archaeological visits, we will make a stop in the town of Urubamba to enjoy an exquisite buffet lunch to comfort you before continuing the tour. After lunch, we will visit the fortress or archaeological site of Ollantaytambo: one of the major centers of the Inca Empire, featuring large terraces, carved walls, and military, religious, and administrative functions, with an approximate duration of 1 hour. Upon completing the visit in Ollantaytambo, the transfer to the train station (whose class or type will be subject to quotation) will be made to board the train to Aguas Calientes. A Pakareqtampu Travel representative will meet you at the Aguas Calientes station and provide you with the necessary information for your visit the next day, arriving in the town at dusk.
Day 02: Guided Tour of Machu Picchu
On day two, you will be met by the Pakareqtampu Travel guide, ready to coordinate the next step. We will head to the CONSETTUR bus station, where we will board the bus that will take us to the entrance of the Machu Picchu archaeological center in a 25 to 30-minute journey at an altitude of 2,430 m a.s.l. Remember to have your entrance ticket and identification document, such as your ID or passport, close at hand. Once inside, you will marvel at the grandeur of this sacred place, considered one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. The Pakareqtampu Travel guide will share with you the history, architecture, and spiritual significance of the main temples, terraces, and viewpoints during a guided tour of approximately 2 hours, leaving free time as an option. After the visit, you will once again board one of the CONSETTUR buses to descend to the town of Aguas Calientes, where you will have time to have lunch or explore on your own before the return trip. At the indicated time, you will board the train bound for Ollantaytambo (train type subject to quotation). From the station, Pakareqtampu Travel transportation will be waiting to take you back to Cusco, ending the tour at your hotel between 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.
